The Lebanese Ministry of Energy stated that no oil was found in the first exploration well, and announced receiving applications for the second round of licensing.
“In the petroleum industry, it is up to science, studies, and drilling activities to confirm whether or not there is petrol in Lebanese maritime waters, bearing in mind that the path of exploration is long and filled with obstacles,” the statement said.
“As for exploration in Block No. 4, the drilling targeted one geological point at a specific depth according to the study carried out by the operator, knowing that the ten patches in the maritime waters contain about 60 geological targets that can be explored in the future,” the statement added.
The ministry noted that the results obtained so far from drilling the first exploration well showed that the basic elements of a geo-petroleum system were confirmed in the Lebanese sea, while the existence of a gas reservoir was not verified.
“We are awaiting the results of the analysis of the samples taken from this well... Those are considered to be of great importance in relation to the drilling path in Block No. 9 and other patches later,” the statement added.
On the other hand, the ministry announced that the government has approved a decree that allows companies wishing to participate in the second round of licensing to submit applications in person, that is, in sealed packages of the required documents and data, or via the Internet in a secure form.
