Secretary-general of the Executive Committee of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO Saeb Erekat said that Israel could cause chaos and violence to annex large parts of the occupied West Bank and Jordan valley.
Israel’s ideology is based on imposing new realities on the ground and reinforcing the occupation to undermine negotiations and the peace process, and reach a state of chaos, he warned, adding that after the Palestinian leadership decision to freeze agreements with Israel, including security cooperation, Israel would resort to violence.
Erekat said that the Palestinian leadership maintains continuous communication with the international community and the Arab League to end the Israeli plan.
“The situation must be dealt with seriously in light of the persistence of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to implement the annexation plan and impose realities in the ground," Erekat added.
Officials from Fatah, led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, accused Israel of spreading rumors. Fatah Revolutionary Council Member Mohammad al-Lahham said that Israel is using fugitive spies to urge people to revolt against the authority.
Palestinian police spokesman Louay Arzaiqat accused some occupation agents of inciting violence among Palestinians to raise doubt towards the PA's ability to be in charge.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate followed the example, and urged media channels and journalists to combat rumors and fake news.
These rumors target the Palestinian community unity and its social fabric, they also aim to stir riot and turbulence, the syndicate warned.
Palestinian Attorney General Akram al-Khatib warned of sharing fake news or rumors via social media networks, given the huge damage that could ensue from this act.
