Libya’s National Center for Disease Control has announced recording the highest daily rate of coronavirus infections .
It said there were 20 new cases in Libya’s south and one death.
In a statement late Wednesday, the Center said it carried out tests on 69 samples, 20 of which were positive.
Three of them are individuals who have returned from abroad and the rest had contact with them.
It also pointed out that the monitoring and rapid response teams are tracing others who have had contacts with the infected.
The Health Ministry of the rival Libyan government in the eastern region has called on all doctors in Sabha municipality and its environs in southern Libya to immediately join the medical quarantine center in the city.
The Government of National Accord (GNA) extended on Wednesday a 10-day curfew for the fourth consecutive time, in further efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although Libya has the lowest rate of coronavirus infections among North African countries, the World Health Organization has recommended that the authorities be cautious and vigilant about the “serious threat,” which may be posed by the outbreak.
It said the pandemic in Libya is still in its early stage and has not yet reached its peak.
