Arab Condemnation of Houthi Attack against Saudi Arabia
Egypt slammed on Monday the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen for firing ballistic missiles and booby-trapped drones towards Saudi Arabia.
The foreign ministry expressed Cairo’s complete solidarity with the Kingdom in confronting such attacks that target civilians.
It said it supports Riyadh in all measures it takes to defend its territories and protect its national security.
Such attacks will only lead to more escalation and instability in Yemen, it added, urging the need to adopt an immediate ceasefire in order to resume the political process and reach a political solution to the crisis.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Dr. Nayef al-Hajraf condemned the attacks, saying such deliberate hostilities by the Houthis against civilian targets inside Yemen and neighboring countries are a flagrant violation of international laws and norms.
He condemned Iran for supplying weapons to the Houthis in violation of an arms embargo imposed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216.
He hailed the alertness of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces in intercepting and downing the missiles and drones before they reached their targets.
He stressed that the GCC stands by the Kingdom and Yemen, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and stand firmly against these ongoing attempts by the Houthis and their backers to undermine regional security.
