Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that it has busted a terrorist cell that had received military and field training by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

The spokesman for the presidency of state security said in a statement on state media that three of those arrested had been trained in Iran while the rest were “linked to the cell in various roles”.

Cell members “received military and field training, including on how to make explosives, inside Revolutionary Guards sites in Iran” for several weeks in late 2017, he said.

The statement said weapons and explosives were confiscated at two locations, a house and a farm in the Kingdom.

Ten suspects were arrested in a raid by security forces, with three having had received training in Iran.

The spokesman said their identities will not be disclosed at the moment to maintain the confidentiality of the investigations.

Authorities are probing the detainees to uncover more details about the cell and their accomplices, inside Saudi Arabia and abroad.

The presidency of state security vowed that it will forge ahead with determination and firmness in confronting such criminal plots and everyone who deigns to violate the Kingdom’s security and stability.

Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa received a delegation from Bahrain on Wednesday and met with the Bahraini foreign minister, state media reported.

The visit was the latest in a flurry of diplomatic overtures by Arab countries to Syria’s new leaders after they overthrew former President Bashar al-Assad in a lightning rebel offensive.

Like other Gulf countries, Bahrain had cut off diplomatic ties with Syria under Assad’s rule during the Syrian civil war, but it reopened its embassy in Damascus in 2018 and gradually restored ties with the Assad government.

Bahrain is the current head of the Arab summit, and days after Assad’s ouster it had sent a message to al-Sharaa offering its cooperation with the new authorities and saying, “We look forward to Syria regaining its authentic role in the Arab League.”
