The secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, Saeb Erekat, called Tuesday on Arab League’s secretary-general Ahmed Aboul Gheit to immediately resign, saying he has “lost all credibility and trust”.
This came after a statement by Aboul Gheit saying that the agreement to normalize UAE-Israeli relations stopped the annexation of Palestinian lands.
In an interview with Sky News Arabia on Monday the Arab League Secretary-General praised the UAE's and Bahrain’s normalization deals with Israel, saying that they had stopped Israel annexing Palestinian territories in the West Bank.
Earlier this month, the Palestinians resigned their chairmanship of the Arab League in protest at the organization’s failure to condemn the Bahrain and UAE’s normalization deals.
On Sept. 22, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said his country decided to renounce the term presidency of the Arab League in response to the normalization with Israel.
