The Think 20 (T20) has underscored energy security and stability of global markets as a webinar for Task Force 10 on Sustainable Energy, Water, and Food Systems discussed means of supporting organized and sustainable transformation that leads to prosperity and meets development goals.
Hossa Al Mutairi, the lead co-chair of Sustainable Energy, Water, and Food Systems, told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that there’s a recommendation to the G20 to establish an international network on developing capabilities.
Mutairi noted that best practices have been taken into consideration to attain an effective and wide-ranging implementation of the integrated energy, food, and water systems.
Reinforcing sustainable energy systems and getting energy in reasonable prices are both substantial matters for the G20 leadership this year, she added. Other significant topics are underpinning water sustainability and reducing food waste.
Al Mutairi pointed out that all civilizations and economies require energy, water, and food to flourish.
She assured that the Task Force covers key challenges facing the world and the Middle East, since it is one of the driest regions in the world. Notably, 12 out of 14 countries suffer from water scarcity.
The webinar, which was organized by the T20’s Sustainable Energy, Food and Water System Task Force Chair, presented recommendations that serve technology and innovation for a sustainable and stable global food market.
It suggested means to achieve security and sustainability of water resources through technology such as desalination.
The taskforce shed light on the gap among countries in terms of integration and sustainability in the systems, leading to shortage or scarcity in modern energy services, adequate food, or clean water for irrigation and drinking.
It would further offer tips on means to cement international cooperation, infrastructure, and institutional work.
