The authorities in the Libyan capital Tripoli have intensified their surveillance of markets and shopping stores to follow up the implementation of preventative measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The number of COVID-19 infections in Libya has risen to 102,880, after 424 new positive cases were registered on Tuesday.
The death toll has risen to 1,546 while the recoveries have reached 77,435, according to the National Center for Disease Control.
Mayor of Ghadames Municipality Qasim Al-Manea complained of the shortage of medical teams in quarantine centers and hospitals.
Manea stated that he addressed the Ministry of Health but has so far received no response.
He told the press that there is also a shortage of oxygen cylinders and some medical equipment.
The interim government in eastern Libya has allocated LYD12 million to the Ministry of Health to cover the cost of supplying and installing oxygen stations for some hospitals in several municipalities.
Amid the strict preventative measures, the new school year started in some regions in the northwest of Libya.
Students of Bani Waled schools were asked to wear facemasks and to adhere to physical distancing.
Schools will open only three days a week.
Meanwhile, the Government of National Accord received medical supplies from South Korea to support Libyan hospitals in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
The shipment entered the country via Mitiga International Airport, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the South Korean Embassy.
