The Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in Saudi Arabia kicked off the first phase of clinical trials to produce a vaccine against Covid-19.
The university has completed laboratory tests that have proven their efficacy against the virus.
The move is supported by the Ministry of Education.
The development reflects the work exerted by Saudi universities towards national efforts aimed at producing the first Saudi vaccine against the coronavirus.
The university has signed a contract with one of the largest specialized companies in the UK and Sweden. It has also worked with leading companies in the production of vaccines and medicines such as AstraZeneca, with the aim of creating appropriate quantities for use in the first phase of clinical trials.
