Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah held talks in Athens on Thursday with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Talks focused on bilateral relations and ways to boost them in all fields. They also tackled the latest regional and international developments.

Prince Faisal was in Greece to attend the meeting of Middle East and eastern Mediterranean foreign ministers. The meeting addressed the most significant issues in the region and the importance of bolstering coordination and cooperation to achieve international security and peace.

Prince Faisal later met with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias to discuss bilateral ties and various issues of common interest.

Prince Faisal stressed that his country constantly seeks peace, development and prosperity in the world, saying the Kingdom is ready to work with all countries that share its vision of peace and stability.

He added that Saudi Arabia underscores the importance of respecting the sovereignty, rights and independence of nations in line with international laws and norms.

The Kingdom condemns any destabilizing meddling in the affairs of other countries, he stated.

He underlined Riyadh’s support for all peaceful efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean region, intensifying consultations and coordination with partners to strengthen security and peace in international waterways and respecting the sovereignty of and good neighborliness between countries.

The Kingdom supports all efforts that lead to a de-escalation of tensions and resolution of crises through dialogue and peaceful means, Prince Faisal declared.

The minister took part in the Philia Forum that was hosted by Athens. The meeting was aimed at building friendship and stability in the region stretching from the Mediterranean to the Gulf.

The event was attended by the foreign ministers of Greece, Egypt, Cyprus, Bahrain and France and the United Arab Emirates’ minister of state for international cooperation.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, received in Riyadh on Monday US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the eve of talks on Ukraine.

Rubio had arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday to prepare for the talks and plan the anticipated summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump and Putin have agreed to kick of peace talks about Ukraine that will be attended by Crown Prince Mohammed.

Saudi and American officials will discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation, as well as efforts to push forward peace and stability in the region.

The State Department had said Rubio’s visit to the region will “promote US interests in advancing regional cooperation, stability, and peace.”

“The trip will center on freeing American and all other hostages from Hamas captivity, advancing to Phase II of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and countering the destabilizing activities of the Iranian regime and its proxies,” it said in a statement.
