Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha called for urgent international intervention to protect civilians from the ongoing Israeli aggression and the continuing genocide against the Palestinian people, the Saudi Press Agency said on Monday.
In his address at the opening of the 40th ministerial session of the OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) in Istanbul, Taha underscored the committee's critical role in fostering economic cooperation among member states.
He reviewed a range of OIC initiatives aimed at bolstering social and economic collaboration to address developmental challenges within the member states.
Taha highlighted the substantial progress in trade among member countries and stressed the importance of effectively implementing trade programs and projects to meet the goal of achieving 25% intra-OIC trade by 2025.
Moreover, he emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation in the food and agriculture sectors, primarily to support rural communities in the least developed OIC countries.
Taha reiterated the importance of increased collaboration and synergy among all OIC member states and institutions to fulfill the organization's founding mission and objectives.
