The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Thursday 9,189 COVID-19 infections, the highest daily record since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The ministry also confirmed 31 new deaths, while the total recoveries in Iraq climbed by 5,139.
The statement also said 37,979 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 across the country during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of doses administered to 1,001,180.
Health Ministry spokesman Saif al-Badr attributed the hike in cases to non-compliance to health precautions.
The media is urged to intensify the awareness campaigns in order to warn people against the dangers of the pandemic. Raising awareness is a national duty, he stressed, according to the Iraqi News Agency.
He called on people to sign up to take the vaccine, assuring that all shots provided by the ministry are safe.
