Israel's military police arrested 10 Israeli soldiers suspected of sexually assaulting and beating a Palestinian detainee during his arrest in the West Bank in late September.

Six of the soldiers from Netzah Yehuda Battalion of the Kfir Brigade, were later released, the police said.

Their custody was extended for the first time earlier this week, and they are set to attend another remand hearing on Friday at the Military Court in Jaffa.

According to the probe, soldiers stormed the Palestinian victim’s house under arbitrary administrative detention orders and kept beating him in the military vehicle en route to the base, where the abuse continued. One of the soldiers also pinned his weapon to the blindfolded detainee’s backside.

The Palestinian man, whose identity or the reason for his detention were not revealed, was then moved to a prison where he underwent a medical examination as part of the procedures.

He told the doctor examining him about the abuse which prompted an investigation.

The army confirmed a probe into the case was ongoing, stressing that the detainee was examined by medical staff at both the detention center and a hospital but did not require any treatment.

The military did not publicly comment on the incident, and a military tribunal banned the publication of the suspects’ identities, citing the ongoing investigation.
