Egypt received a new batch of Johnson & Johnson vaccines, as part of the state's plan on expanding the vaccination against the coronavirus.

Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced Monday that the third shipment of the J&J vaccines, a total of 1,058,400 doses, has arrived.

The shipment came through the mechanism of the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team (AVAT) in cooperation with the African Export and Import Bank.

Health Ministry spokesperson Khaled Megahed said that the latest shipment will be distributed to 1,100 vaccination centers across Egypt.

The statement pointed out that the shipment will be subject to analyses in the laboratories of the Egyptian Drug Authority.

The J&J vaccine has proven effective in preventing infection with the coronavirus, it added, and is a single-dose vaccine. It has obtained emergency use approval from the World Health Organization and the Egyptian Drug Authority.

Megahed called on the people to register on the official website to get the vaccine, asserting that the Egyptian state saves no effort to provide COVID-19 jabs for free for the citizens.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said that the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country since the beginning of the outbreak has reached 324,619, including 18,285 deaths and 274,007 recoveries.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said Sunday that 886 new coronavirus cases were detected, while 43 patients died.

Lebanon's Hezbollah has launched a drone attack on the Ashdod naval base in southern Israel for the first time, the Iran-backed group said on Sunday in a statement.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on the attack.
On Saturday, Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut killed at least 20 people, as the once-rare attacks on the heart of Lebanon's capital continued without warning while diplomats scrambled to broker a cease-fire.
Lebanon's Health Ministry said 66 people were wounded in the strikes, which were the fourth in central Beirut in less than a week.
US envoy Amos Hochstein traveled to the region in pursuit of a deal to end months of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that has erupted into full-on war.
Israeli attacks have killed more than 3,500 people in Lebanon, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. The fighting has displaced about 1.2 million people, or a quarter of Lebanon’s population.
Also Saturday, a drone strike killed two people and injured three in the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre. Other airstrikes killed eight people, including four children, in the eastern town of Shmustar, five others in the southern village of Roumin, and another five people in the northeastern village of Budai.
