Despite offering free vaccines and launching extensive awareness campaigns to urge Tunisians to receive the COVID-19 jab, Tunisia recorded a low vaccination rate, which remains far below the expectations of the Health Ministry.
The African nation had intended to complete the vaccination of about five million people by the end of October, but the reluctance of many Tunisians to visit vaccination centers thwarted the government's plan.
The Health Ministry has reported a drop in the number of coronavirus-linked deaths between October 31 and November 13.
The Ministry reported Sunday two more COVID-19 deaths and 50 infections from 2,660 tests (1.88% positivity rate), bringing the caseload to 715,687 and the death toll to 25,311.
The number of recoveries rose by 102, reaching 689,504 while four more hospitalizations in public and private healthcare facilities brought the total to 146, including 48 patients in intensive care and nine under life support.
Meanwhile, the Ministry said 24,073 COVID-19 vaccine shots (11,054 first shots, 6,082 boosters, 6,630 third doses and 308 travel shots) were administered on Sunday.
“Since March 13, the number of fully vaccinated people reached 4,773,715, including 3,748,831 who got two doses and 1,024,680 who received one shot as the J&J vaccine requires a single dose or they had previously contracted the virus,” it said.
The Ministry added that around 10 million people have received one or two doses of the vaccine.
