Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz hoped on Wednesday that Iran would change its negative behavior in the region and choose dialogue and cooperation.

In address to the Kingdom's advisory Shura Council, the king said: "We follow with concern the Iranian government’s policy which is destabilizing regional security and stability, including building and backing sectarian armed militias and propagating its military power in other countries.”

"(We follow with concern) its lack of cooperation with the international community regarding its nuclear program and its development of ballistic missiles," he added.

"The Kingdom also stands by the brotherly Lebanese people, and urges all Lebanese leaders to prioritize the interests of their people ... and stop Hezbollah’s terrorist hegemony over the structures of the state," King Salman said.

He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's initiative "to end the conflict in Yemen and support global and international efforts to reach a political solution, in accordance with the three references: The Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216.”

On Afghanistan, he said Saudi Arabia is "closely following the developments" as he stressed the "importance of the stability and security of Afghanistan instead of being a haven for terrorist organizations."

"The Kingdom also urges intensifying regional and international efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Afghan people. In this regard, the Kingdom called for a special meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Ministerial Council in December 2021, to provide relief to the brotherly people of Afghanistan,” he said.

The king also took the occasion to commend Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom he credited for the various visionary projects being undertaken as part of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 program.

He mentioned the start of the second phase of Vision 2030, the goal of which is to create a diversified economy.

King Salman also said the OPEC+ production agreement was "essential" to oil market stability and stressed the need for producers to comply with the pact.

The king said market stability and balance are a pillar of Saudi energy policy and efforts to maintain spare capacity had proven important to safeguarding energy supply security.

"The Kingdom ... confirms its keenness for the continuation of the OPEC+ agreement due to its essential role in oil market stability and also stresses the importance of compliance by all participating countries with the agreement," he said.

The Saudi government underlined on Tuesday its absolute support for the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, legitimate government and people in ending the coup by the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia and reclaiming the state and its institutions.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the Cabinet meeting held in Riyadh.

The Houthi militia “has chosen military escalation as an alternative approach to peace, further deepening the humanitarian and economic suffering of Yemen and its brotherly people, while continuing to threaten the region and maritime navigation in the southern Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait,” added the government.

The Cabinet commended the outcomes of the emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense. The meeting underlined solidarity among Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye and their unified stance in confronting the criminal attacks against the Kingdom that targeted Makkah, Madinah, civilian objects, and civil and economic facilities.

The meeting also resulted in an agreement to activate collective deterrence and immediately move toward the practical implementation of mutual defense commitments, in a manner that boosts military readiness, integration, and the capability to confront such threats.

The Crown Prince briefed the Cabinet on his meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa that covered the prospects of relations and areas of cooperation between their countries.

The Cabinet highly praised the annual royal address of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the opening of the third year of the ninth session of the Shura Council. The address highlighted the state’s enduring principles and foundations, the key achievements of Saudi Vision 2030, the gains of developmental reforms and economic momentum, as well as the foundations of foreign policy and its steadfast positions, which have strengthened the Kingdom’s regional and international standing.

It affirmed that the aspirations of citizens and the interests of the nation will always remain at the forefront of the work of state institutions, guiding and informing their decisions and strategic directions.

The Cabinet viewed the preliminary state budget estimates for the coming fiscal year as confirmation of the strength of the Kingdom’s economy and its resilience in responding to global changes and developments through proactive policies. These policies help meet national targets and sustain spending on services and on development and social priorities while maintaining fiscal sustainability.

The Cabinet reviewed several reports on international conferences hosted by the Kingdom, commending the work of the Global CSR Forum, held under the patronage of King Salman. It also hailed the launch of initiatives during the forum’s second edition.

The initiatives will help put partnerships with social and developmental impact into action and expand sustainable institutional support in this field, supporting national objectives and advancing comprehensive development.
