The Muslim World League (MWL) welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly affirming the right of Palestinians to self-determination and rejecting Israel’s illegal occupation of their territories, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.
In a statement, MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, praised the resolution for reaffirming global recognition of the Palestinian people's fundamental right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
He commended the countries that voted in favor of the resolution for their responsible stance and called on the United Nations and permanent members of the Security Council to uphold their duties by supporting the Palestinian people's "historic, humanitarian," and "legal" rights, urging them to apply pressure for the implementation of international resolutions on the ground.
