Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, launched on Saturday from Islamabad the MWL’s urgent campaign for the relief of the Pakistani people.

The campaign aims to secure food, housing and health needs of tens of thousands of people affected by the floods in different Pakistani provinces.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly received Al-Issa and the accompanying delegations in the Pakistani capital where the two men reviewed the conditions of people affected by the floods.

Sharif expressed appreciation for the Association’s visit “in these difficult circumstances” that Pakistan is going through. The PM then praised the MWL's efforts in spreading the culture of tolerance and peace, which reflects the true image of Islam.

“I proudly follow your efforts, and we thank you for your great role in bringing together the nation’s scholars and highlighting the true face of Islam,” Sharif said.

For his part, Al-Issa thanked the Pakistani PM, affirming the MWL’s pride in performing its Islamic and humanitarian duty towards the Pakistani people, which represents the compassion and affection of Muslims among themselves.

Al-Issa arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday to attend the International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference.

On Saturday, he met with the Pakistani Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Mufti Abdul Shakoor. During the meeting, the two men discussed a number of issues related to Islamic affairs and humanitarian work in the region, and prospects for bilateral cooperation in this regard.

Shakoor lauded the MWL’s role in serving Islamic causes, resolving the issues of Muslim minorities around the world and its efforts to promote unity among Muslims.
