A fire swept through an apartment building in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, killing at least 16 people and injuring another nine, authorities said Sunday.

The blaze took place on Saturday in the Al Murar area of Dubai's historic Deira neighborhood where many laborers live.

“Preliminary investigations showed that lack of compliance with building security and safety requirements caused the fire,” said a statement from Dubai Civil Defense.

“Relevant authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to provide a detailed report on the causes of the” fire.

The Saudi leadership congratulated Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman on Independence Day, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent a message to Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, expressing his wishes for continued good health and happiness. He extended his hopes for greater security and stability for the government and people of Sudan.
In his message, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, extended his heartfelt congratulations to al-Burhan on the occasion of Sudan's Independence Day anniversary. He extended his well-wishes to the government and people of Sudan.
