Tehran-aligned Houthi militias in Yemen fired a ballistic missile at a village in Saudi Arabia on Friday morning, said a Saudi-led Arab Coalition.
Coalition spokesman Col. Turki Al Maliki said in a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency that Houthis were targeting civilian areas.
“The missile was fired at around 1.17am towards a border village in the Najran region, where it hit a residential complex inhabited by a number of workers,” he added.
He stated that one of the workers sustained minor injuries after a fire erupted in the complex, which sustained much damage.
Al Maliki said the “hostile act” by the Houthi coupists was a result of “the continuous smuggling of arms and missiles” from other groups in the region.
“Their goal is to threaten the security of Saudi Arabia and to target civilians,” he said, noting that the firing of ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages violated international law.
Meanwhile, pro-government fighters from the al-Awwad tribe, based in the central Yemeni province of al-Bayda, rose up against coup militias after Houthis killed one of their members.
Al-Bayda-based political activist Ahmad al-Hamzi told Asharq Al-Awsat that “at least six coupists were killed and others injured.”
He added that insurgency militias lost two armored and two other military vehicles.
Three al-Awwad tribe members were wounded in the unrest. Tribesmen also seized weapons and arms from Houthis.
"The fighting broke out between the al-Awwad group and coup militias in the area of Tahririya," Hamzi explained.
He pointed out that the area is still witnessing fierce clashes as insurgents tried to advance into tribal territories. Some tribal mediators are trying to intervene to stop the fighting.
