Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah warned on Tuesday of the dangerous repercussions the regional crises will have on his country.

He therefore stressed the importance of preserving national unity, adding that he would not hesitate to take any decision in order to preserve Kuwait’s security and stability.

In a speech before a consultative National Assembly meeting, the Emir called on the MPs to realize the dangers of developments in the tumultuous region, underlining their severe political, economic and security repercussions.

He underscored national unity and “rejecting any sectarian, tribal or partisan divisions.”

He also stressed that any “political speech that incites hate and sectarian or racial divisions will be prohibited.”

“The lawmakers should serve as an example to the people and promote national rhetoric,” declared the Emir.

On the repercussions of the Gulf crisis, Sheikh Sabah called on the Kuwait MPs to remain neutral from the developments, urging them to avoid political and media disputes.

“Kuwait’s role as a real mediator in the Gulf means that it seeks a solution to the crisis among brothers, not becoming a third party among the two divided sides,” he continued.

In addition, he called on the lawmakers to cooperate in efforts to form a new cabinet after the government tendered its resignation to him last week.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
