Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir met with his British counterpart Boris Johnson Thursday in Jeddah, west of Saudi Arabia, during which the ministers discussed a number of economic issues related to the Saudi Vision 2030 and political developments in the Middle East region.
Jubeir and Johnson held a closed bilateral meeting, an informed source told Asharq Al-Awsat.
The British Foreign Secretary discussed the potentials of Britain's contribution to the implementation of the Kingdom’s vision 2030, which was approved by the Saudi Council of Ministers and presented by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in April 2016.
The vision includes economic, social and development programs aimed at preparing Saudi Arabia for the post-oil phase.
The source said in a phone call with Asharq Al-Awsat that the discussions included developments in the region, especially in Yemen and Syria, and peace in the Middle East.
Johnson has arrived at Jeddah airport on Thursday afternoon, and he was received by Director of Foreign Ministry's Branch in Makkah Region Ambassador Jamal Bakr Balkhoyor.
Following the closed meeting, Johnson toured with his Saudi counterpart the historic city of Jeddah, accompanied by historian, who was explaining to Johnson the history of ancient Jeddah.
He visited a number of sites there, including Beit Nassif, which dates back to 1872, a historical period from the era of the development of old architecture in Jeddah and is one of the most important monuments there, and then they had lunch in one of the restaurants in the city.
