Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, received in Riyadh the Director General of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Riyadh (OCHA), Michael Hiller Shaw.

During the meeting, Zayani welcomed Michael Hiler Shaw, congratulating him on his assumption of the post of Director General of OCHA in Riyadh, wishing him success in his mission.

He lauded the efforts of OCHA in the field of humanitarian work and its endeavors to provide aid to the Yemeni people.

The two officials discussed the efforts of OCHA in relief aid and its role in providing humanitarian aid to Yemeni people in cooperation with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (Ksrelief).

They also explored ways of enhancing cooperation between the Secretariat of GCC and OCHA to promote joint efforts in the humanitarian field. In addition, they discussed efforts exerted by OCHA to support relief work and deliver humanitarian aid to the needy countries in the region.

Zayani praised the economic and development support provided by the Arab coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen.

He affirmed the determination of GCC countries to support and assist the Yemeni people in their ordeal and difficult circumstances, adding that they will continue their efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to all Yemeni governorates.

The meeting was attended by GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations Abdulaziz Hamad Aluwaisheg.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
