Saudi Arabia will host, at the end of March, the World Summit on Artificial Intelligence, an annual global forum for the exchange of experiences and partnerships in the world of data and artificial intelligence at the local and international levels.

The event will be held under the patronage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The summit, which will be held at King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh on March 30 and 31, will strengthen the Kingdom’s leading role in the field of artificial intelligence and its global efforts in this advanced field. The summit will also discuss several topics around artificial intelligence and its impact on society and the economy.

The Global AI Summit was announced on the sidelines of the Foreign Investment Initiative (FII 2019) during a talk given by Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, President of Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).

Speaking at the announcement Dr. Abdullah said: “Artificial intelligence is playing a central role in the digital transformation of all sectors of human activity, from business and enterprise to key national industries, government, healthcare, and many more areas beside. AI is bringing us new insight and new capabilities that are reshaping the world around us. The Global AI Summit will become an international platform to discuss those changes and to understand how AI technology can be utilized for the benefit of all.”

The Saudi Data and Artificial intelligence Authority was established by Royal decree in August 2019, to become the main government entity to facilitate and enable the adoption of AI in the Kingdom, particularly in relation to achieving the Vision 2030 goals.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
