Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under fire after he and his wife carried with them 11 suitcases on a recent visit to Portugal.
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper questioned the reason behind them carrying this much luggage for a one-day trip aimed at meeting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
It wondered whether the suitcases were carrying outfits to be sent to the laundry of the hotel they are staying at the expense of the state.
But Netanyahu’s office responded in a statement, saying the media reports were mere gossip.
It stressed that there were necessary items, needed by Netanyahu for his office work, in the suitcases.
Israeli Attorney general Avichai Mandelblit last month announced charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust against Netanyahu in three different corruption cases, numbered 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000.
