King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued two royal decrees, in which he carried out a limited amendment to Bahrain’s government in the foreign minister post.
The first decree stipulates the appointment of Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa as Advisor to the King for Diplomatic Affairs.
Sheikh Khalid joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 1985 and assumed the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs in September 2005, until his new appointment on Tuesday.
The second decree stipulates the appointment of outgoing Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani as Foreign Minister.
Zayani assumed his role in the GCC in April 2011 as the first Bahraini national in this port. His term as GCC chief will end on April 1, 2020 and he will be succeeded by former Kuwaiti Finance Minister Nayef al-Hajraf.
He previously served as head of public security in the Kingdom’s Ministry of Interior from 2004 to 2010. In June 2010, he was appointed advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
