The Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Saudi Arabia has launched three initiatives to enhance communication with the international community to highlight human rights reforms achieved in the Kingdom.

Awwad Al-Awwad, president of the Human Rights Commission, said that the Kingdom had witnessed historical transformations and qualitative moves in human rights, as more than 70 reform decisions were issued in the field of human rights.

The HRC president described those reforms as a success story led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stressing that HRC will work to highlight these reforms and share them with the international community as a pioneering and unique experience.

At the forefront of the new initiative is the launch of the International Communication Program for HRC, whereby a group of civil society institutions will participate in meetings of the Human Rights Council and in international human rights events.

Another initiative is aimed to train youth leaders to enhance Saudi Arabia's presence in human rights organizations worldwide.

The program is an important opportunity to inform international partners of the Kingdom's unprecedented steps to meet international human rights standards.

Al-Awwad has also launched the HRC International platform, focusing on sharing information and data that reflects the progress made in human rights in the Kingdom in the English language, and direct interaction with the public on social media.

He also launched a monthly newsletter, edited in English, dealing with the new reforms and developments at the national level in human rights.

The new initiatives also include creating a mailing list that addresses more than 500 personalities concerned with human rights worldwide to provide them with new reforms and developments related to human rights in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Awwad stressed that these initiatives reflect the real picture of the human rights situation in the Kingdom, which has witnessed during the past few years an unprecedented development at all levels.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
