The Organization of Islamic Cooperation stated on Saturday that Saudi Arabia was leading efforts to restore hope among peoples of the world.

OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen said that the Kingdom has demonstrated its pioneering global role through its presidency of the G20 amid the unprecedented novel coronavirus pandemic.

He hailed the major initiatives proposed by Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, in confronting the shocking repercussions of the pandemic.

He cited their amassing of urgent resources to support the global effort to combat the outbreak and helping affected people and countries.

Saudi Arabia has become an “icon of reforms and economic and political balance in the world,” he remarked as the Kingdom hosts the G20 summit.

Othaimeen said the Kingdom has led world countries during this extraordinary year by expanding social safety networks to ease the impact of the pandemic on the people who are most vulnerable to losing their jobs.

He also hailed King Salman’s opening speech at the summit, saying he has “diagnosed” the crises ailing the world, while also recommending the necessary treatment for economic and social problems.

He also sent a message of hope to people in developing countries by offering to provide them with aid so that they can maintain their development.

King Salman kicked off the G20 Leaders Summit on Saturday, describing 2020 as an “extraordinary year” and urging the leaders of the major economies to address the vulnerabilities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and rise to the challenge together.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
