Preparations are underway for the return of all members of the Presidential Leadership Council, government and parliament to Yemen, a senior Yemeni official told Asharq Al-Awsat.

The newly founded Council will be sworn in before parliament and will assume its duties inside Yemen, the official added.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, he said: “There are preparations for the return of the president, the Council, parliament and the advisory body to Yemen so that they can take the oath at home.”

Brigadier-General Tariq Saleh, Vice-Chairman of the Council, spoke of a consensus on the decision to return the government and the Council to work in liberated Yemeni governorates, and closely monitor developments in the field.

The smooth transition of power establishes a new phase in the history of Yemen, especially since the Council includes national leaders united by one goal, which is to end the coup and restore hijacked state institutions, explained Saleh.

Leader of the Southern Transitional Council and Vice-Chairman of the Leadership Council Aidarus al-Zoubaidi confirmed that Aden will be the capital of all Yemenis and a starting point for the liberation and restoration of all of Yemen.

“We have before us a fateful stage and a historic enemy,” stressed al-Zoubaidi.

Speaking to a crowd of Yemeni media professionals who partook in the intra-Yemeni consultations that were held in Riyadh earlier this month he noted the talks were “highly successful and they produced honorable results that exceeded expectations, and will lead to a new roadmap.”

“We are soldiers on one front and battle until the transitional period ends, and then democracy will have its say,” remarked al-Zoubaidi.

He also called for unifying the media discourse against the Houthi militias and their Iranian agenda.

Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam said on Friday the formation of a new government would not be delayed, indicating a very positive atmosphere in discussions over its composition.

Salam was nominated by a majority of lawmakers on Monday to form the new government, although he did not win the backing of the Shiite parties Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, led by parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

"The atmosphere is more than positive among all the blocs and today from Speaker Berri," Salam said, speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Joseph Aoun, who was elected by parliament on Jan. 9.

Berri, a close Hezbollah ally, said on Friday he held a "promising meeting" with Salam.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah and Amal had wanted the incumbent Prime Minister Najib Mikati to stay in the post, but a majority of lawmakers opted for Salam, who formerly served as president of the International Court of Justice.

Government formation discussions are often protracted in Lebanon, due to bartering among its sectarian factions over cabinet positions.
