The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that it would facilitate the arrival of Yemeni pilgrims for Hajj and Umrah this year from Sanaa International Airport to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
It comes as part of the Saudi government’s eagerness to facilitate pilgrims’ trips and ensure the safety of visitors, as well as support and alleviate the suffering of Yemenis, according to the Ministry’s statement which was carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Thursday.
Yemen’s national carrier, Yemenia Airways, is set to launch on June 17 its first flight to transport pilgrims from Sanaa International Airport to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, Yemeni Information Minister Moammar al-Iryani said on Thursday.
Al-Iryani said the decision to launch flights to Jeddah and Madinah airports was made upon the directives of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) President Rashad al-Alimi and with the cooperation of Saudi Arabia.
Mohsen Haidara, the commercial director of Yemenia Airways, said on Wednesday that all necessary measures will be taken to start the pilgrims’ flights in coordination with the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
The schedule of flights will be determined based on the number of pilgrims coming from Sanaa to Madinah and Jeddah in the remaining period of the Hajj season, added Haidara.
