Hyundai Engineering & Construction said Tuesday its net profit jumped 38.9 percent on-year in 2023, bolstered by increased construction project orders, and the contribution of Saudi Arabia to the growth of its profits after a series of successful partnerships between the two parties in recent years.
The company said its healthy performance was attributed to a series of orders it won from home and overseas, including a metro line construction project in Saudi Arabia and a refinery construction project in Vietnam.
Net profit came to 654.3 billion won ($490 million) on a consolidated basis in 2023, compared with a profit of 544.2 billion won in 2022, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Operating profit rose to 785.4 billion won, marking a 36.6 percent on-year increase, while sales also climbed 39.6 percent to 29.65 trillion won last year.
The company said it has set an annual sales target of 29.75 trillion won for 2024.
In another context, prices for goods and services among South Korean suppliers rebounded in three months due to higher prices for farm goods and natural gas, central bank data showed Tuesday.
The producer price index (PPI) rose 0.1 percent in December last year compared to the previous month after sliding 0.1 percent in October and 0.4 percent in November, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The PPI reached 121.19 last month, up from 121.02 tallied in November, added the BOK.
The data also showed that for all of 2023, the producer price moved up 1.6 percent on-year. From a year earlier, it gained 1.2 percent.
In December, consumer prices rose 3.2 percent from a year earlier, the fifth consecutive month that prices have stayed above the 3 percent level, though the growth has slowed down for two months in a row.
