The Saudi Agricultural Development Fund approved over the past year loans exceeding SAR 6.474 billion ($1.7 billion), bringing the total value of loans provided until the last fiscal year to more than SAR 65 billion ($17.3 billion).
According to a recent report issued by the Agricultural Development Fund, the share of the poultry sector from the funding reached around SAR 782 million, greenhouses SAR 415 million, and aquaculture SAR 160 million. In addition, the amount of SAR 861 million was dedicated to development loans, while SAR 693 million was provided for supply chains, and SAR 1.9 million for the initiative to import agricultural products. The rest of the loans were distributed among a number of other sectors, the report said.
The Fund has taken many measures to facilitate the payment process for citizens by allowing electronic payment through all banking channels, as well as using means of communication to send reminder notices to customers to settle their dues, in addition to hiring employees to support the collection departments in branches, offices and service centers.
During the past year, the Fund launched four new financing programs that mainly include lending to food security projects, supply chains and marketing of agricultural products and industries (food and processing), in addition to projects with a strategic dimension, innovation and patents.
These programs aim to build an adequate infrastructure for the sector that is capable of facing crises, raising self-sufficiency rates to reach the desired target and maintaining the local stock of food commodities to ensure price stability, in addition to supporting supply chains, localizing technologies, and reducing the depletion of natural and energy resources.
