Palestinian Minister of Finance Omar Al-Bitar received on Thursday the fourth installment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s financial grant to support Palestine for 2024, amounting to $10 million. This contribution reflects the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.
The handover ceremony was held at the Saudi Embassy in Jordan during a meeting between Palestinian Minister of Finance Omar Al-Bitar and non-resident Saudi Ambassador to Palestine and Consul General in Al-Quds Nayef bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, SPA reported.
Al-Bitar expressed his gratitude for the Kingdom’s unwavering historical support for Palestine, its advocacy for legitimate Palestinian rights, and its backing for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He conveyed greetings from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to the Kingdom’s leadership for its continued political, economic, and humanitarian assistance.
The minister also commended Saudi Arabia’s ongoing support, emphasizing the critical role of this aid in alleviating the financial crisis facing Palestine due to recent Israeli policies.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Sudairi reiterated the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people. He noted that Saudi Arabia has consistently provided financial aid over the years, totaling $5.3 billion in humanitarian, relief, and development assistance. These efforts aim to bolster Palestinian resilience and mitigate economic and humanitarian challenges.
This fourth installment raised Saudi Arabia’s total aid to Palestine in 2024 to $40 million. The funding has been allocated to vital sectors, including healthcare and education. It covers expenses such as operating public hospitals, purchasing medical supplies, paying salaries for healthcare workers and teachers, and covering school-related expenses.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
