A Tunisian appeals court has reduced the prison sentences of four social media influencers convicted of "violating public morals" online, a lawyer said Thursday.
Three have been released from prison after their sentences were reduced to three-month terms, which they have already served, according to lawyer Hammadi Henchiri.
Lady Samara, an Instagram content creator with over one million followers, was released after her sentence was reduced from three and a half years, said Henchiri.
TikTok influencers Afifa Ben Abdallah and her husband Ramzi were also freed after their sentences -- 18 months and three and a half years, respectively -- were reduced, the lawyer said, AFP reported.
Another TikTok influencer known as "Khoubaib" remains in prison after his sentence was cut from four and a half years to two, said Henchiri.
Last October, the justice ministry published a statement urging prosecutors to take legal action against internet users producing content deemed offensive to "public morals".
It did not name the influencers that were arrested days later and charged with "engaging in public indecency" and "violating public values".
President Kais Saied took office in 2019 and orchestrated a sweeping power grab less than two years later.
