US Senator Bernie Sanders has said for the first time that Israel is committing “genocide” in its war in the Gaza Strip.
While Sanders has led efforts in the Senate to block the sale of US bombs and firearms to Israel, he has stopped short of describing the war as a “genocide” — which at times has drawn criticism.
But in a statement Wednesday titled “It’s a genocide,” Sanders said “the conclusion is inescapable.”
"Having named it a genocide, we must use every ounce of our leverage to demand an immediate ceasefire,” said Sanders.
