Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky warned a European leaders' summit Thursday that Russia has the ability to violate airspace anywhere on the continent, as he offered his country's war-honed expertise to help counter the threat.
"If the Russians dare to launch drones against Poland, or violate the airspace of northern European countries, it means this can happen anywhere," Zelensky told the gathering of heads of state and government in Copenhagen.
"In Western Europe, in the south, we need fast and effective response and defense forces that know how to deal with drones."
Speaking at the same summit, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Russian shadow fleet represents an important part of Russia's business model so it is important to put pressure on it.
French police have arrested the captain and first officer of a sanctioned tanker suspected of operating for Russia's "shadow fleet," after the navy boarded the vessel, authorities said on Thursday.
"Thanks to our Navy commandos and to the crews of the French Navy who intervened this weekend on board a Russian shadow fleet tanker, currently anchored off Saint-Nazaire," Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu wrote on X. "Their action contributed to the arrest of two members of its crew."
Brest Prosecutor Stephane Kellenberger, whose office is handling the investigation into the Boracay, said in a statement the two people in custody had identified themselves as the ship's captain and its first officer.
They are accused of failing to provide proof of the vessel's nationality and failing to comply with orders, and their detention has been extended, he said.
Macron also said Thursday that it was important to get to the bottom of what happened in Denmark, after airspace intrusions by unmanned aircraft rattled the country last week.
