Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of a "new conspiracy" being planned by Tehran's opponents, warning that they may seek to create economic and social unrest to destabilize the country.

Speaking at a forum in Isfahan, he explained that the conspiracy will not be based on a direct military confrontation, but an attempt to stir economic problems and weaken Iran internally.

Such a conspiracy will fail, he declared.

On Israel's 12-day war against Iran in June, Araghchi stressed that Tehran's "perseverance thwarted the enemy conspiracy that sought Iran's surrender."

He described the war as a "feat of historic resistance."

"Iran's enemies believed they could impose unconditional surrender within days, but they realized that they needed to retreat against the perseverance of the society and armed forces," added the FM.

The war "sent a message that the Iranian people will not succumb to oppression or dictates," he declared.

Israel killed dozens of Iranian commanders, officials and scientists tied to Iran's nuclear program during the June war. The US briefly joined the conflict to strike Iran's nuclear facilities.

On sanctions, Araghchi said: "We have to acknowledge that we have to live with them."

He stressed that he was aware of their impact and cost, but they also reveal opportunities to introduce reforms.

Moreover, he said sanctions are often used as a form of psychological warfare with the aim to destabilize the economy.

He vowed that the Foreign Ministry will maintain diplomatic efforts to lift the sanctions.

"It will not spare an effort" in investing in any opportunity to ease the international pressure, he added.

Netanyahu's meeting with Trump

Meanwhile, attention turns to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday.

Washington has maintained its "maximum pressure" policy against Iran, while Israel has warned that Tehran was rebuilding its military capabilities after the war during which it dealt it heavy blows to its ballistic missile arsenal.

Araghchi said last week that Iran was not ruling out a new Israeli attack, "but it was prepared more than before."

Media reports have said that Netanyahu will discuss with Trump Iran's ballistic missile program.

Earlier, this week, he warned that Israel was aware of military drills Iran had recently carried out.

Israel is monitoring the situation and will respond firmly to any attack, he stressed without elaborating.

Turkish authorities said Friday that they have apprehended a suspected member of the extremist ISIS group who was planning attacks on New Year's celebrations.

State-run Anadolu Agency reported that Ibrahim Burtakucin was captured in a joint operation carried out by police and the National Intelligence Agency in the southeastern city of Malatya.

Security officials told Anadolu that Burtakucin was in contact with many ISIS sympathizers in Türkiye and abroad and was also looking for an opportunity to join the ongoing fighting in conflict zones.

Authorities also seized digital materials and banned publications belonging to ISIS during the raid of his home.

The arrest was reported a day after Istanbul's prosecutor's office said Turkish authorities carried out simultaneous raids in which they detained over a hundred suspected members of the militant ISIS group who were allegedly planning attacks against Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

China's foreign ministry announced sanctions on Friday targeting 10 individuals and 20 US defense firms, including Boeing's St. Louis branch, over arms sales to Taiwan.

The measures freeze any assets the companies and individuals hold in China and bar domestic organizations and individuals from doing business with them, the ministry said.

Individuals on ‌the list, ‌including the founder ‌of defense firm Anduril Industries ‌and nine senior executives from the sanctioned firms, are also banned from entering China, it added.

Other companies targeted include Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation and L3Harris Maritime Services.

The move follows Washington's announcement last week of $11.1 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, the largest ‌ever US weapons package for ‍the island, drawing ‍Beijing's ire.

"The Taiwan issue is the ‍core of China's core interests and the first red line that cannot be crossed in China-US relations," a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement on Friday.

"Any provocative actions that cross the line on the Taiwan issue will be met with a strong response from China," the statement said, urging the US to cease "dangerous" efforts to arm the island.

China views democratically-governed Taiwan as part of its own territory, a claim Taipei rejects.

The US is bound by law to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself, though such arms sales ‌are a persistent source of friction with China.

Iran has seized a foreign oil tanker near the Iranian island of Qeshm in the Gulf, saying it was carrying 4 million liters of smuggled fuel, state media reported on ‌Friday.

Authorities did not ‌name the ‌vessel or disclose ‌its nationality. They said 16 foreign crew members had been detained on criminal charges. State TV said the tanker was seized on Wednesday.

Iranian news websites published video footage and photographs of ‌what they said was ‍the seized ‍tanker.

Iran said last week ‍it had seized another foreign tanker carrying 6 million liters of what it described as smuggled diesel in the Gulf of Oman without identifying the vessel or its nationality.
