The legitimate Yemeni government reiterated on Sunday its demand to the international community to take firmer stances against the Houthi group.
Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani stressed that the Houthis’ continued attacks against commercial vessels and threats to the Red Sea security and marine navigation prove once again that the group is “carrying out an Iranian agenda aimed at destabilizing the region and undermining international marine security.”
In a post on the X platform, he warned that the impact of these attacks will be felt beyond Yemen to the region and entire world.
He said the attacks harm supply chains and international trade, and thwart UN and regional efforts to achieve peace and stability.
Zindani called on the international community to take a stronger stance to deter the Houthis, work on drying up the sources of their funding and prevent their threats to regional and international interests.
He made his remarks as the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre received a report of an incident in the southern Red Sea.
“It has been reported to UKMTO that a tanker witnessed a splash from an unknown projectile in close proximity to the vessel. Reports confirm that the vessel and crew are safe,” it said.
“Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO while authorities continue to investigate.”
