Saudi Arabia’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has been awarded the Expo Innovation Award in the Technology Innovation category by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute (GISPRI) for its 3D-printed coral reefs project, showcased in the Sustainable Sea gallery.
Saudi Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Kingdom pavilion Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr stated that "this award highlights our commitment to leverage the Kingdom's innovations for a sustainable future," noting the importance of partnerships in achieving success.
The award recognizes the collaboration between King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and Saudi startup Inkspire, focusing on rehabilitating coral reef ecosystems with advanced 3D-printed materials and biocompatible inks. The project demonstrated significant success in promoting long-term coral growth and addressing biodiversity loss.
With under 40 days until Expo 2025 concludes, the Saudi pavilion invites visitors to explore the 3D coral reef gallery and various themes, including Evolving Cities and Sustainable Sea, while enjoying cultural events and hospitality.
