Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi arrived in Jeddah on Thursday to participate in the 32nd regular session of the Arab League Meeting at the summit level.
Presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said Sisi's participation is part of Egypt's constant keenness to strengthen and develop relations with the Arab States. It is also part of Egypt's role in supporting efforts to advance the mechanisms of joint action and unity for the benefit of all Arab peoples.
Fahmy told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Jeddah Summit would be held amid challenging international and regional developments, including complex global, political, and economic crises.
The spokesman added that more pressure was added in the Arab world, recalling the developments in Sudan after clashes erupted on April 15 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces amid Arab and international efforts to end the crisis.
The Arab summit should promote consultation and focus on coordination considering the successive changes and escalating crisis at the regional and international levels due to food, energy, finance, and geopolitical tensions, said the spokesman.
The official also noted the increased tension at the global level against the background of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the tension between the United States and China.
Fahmy pointed out that the summit is witnessing the return of Syria after over a decade of suspension of its membership in the League, noting that the decision was taken by consensus.
He noted the efforts of Egypt and Saudi Arabia and the significant steps towards achieving Syria's return to the Arab League.
Fahmy indicated that Egypt looks forward to the return of Syria, which constitutes a solid and effective context for settling the crisis, based on Security Council Resolution No. 2254, in a way that ends the suffering of the Syrian people.
The official spokesman said that Sisi's speech and activities during the summit and his visit to Jeddah would focus on the Arab and regional national state as a haven for millions of people, protecting them from various threats amid instability, lack of security, and increased crime.
The Egyptian president will address the current crises and Egypt's vision to settle them peacefully and unite the Arab ranks. It doesn't necessarily mean a complete agreement on all the positions, but rather an integration among the countries and working seriously, systematically, and effectively to achieve common goals.
The Egyptian president will reiterate the importance of the Arab countries exerting efforts at the international level to contribute effectively to resolving global crises affecting them.
Fahmy said that Egypt was the most affected by the major global crises and aimed to settle them and advance the process of global economic governance.
He pointed out that the global economic system needs to develop its course to achieve greater justice, especially for developing countries.
