An Israeli attack on military positions in southwest Syria on Wednesday killed eight soldiers and wounded seven more, the Syrian state news agency (SANA) reported.

Citing a military source, SANA said Israel's "aerial aggression" targeted a number of military positions near the southwestern city of Daraa. The strike also caused material damage, it reported.

The attack took place at around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday (2245 GMT on Tuesday), SANA reported.

Israel's military said earlier that its jets had struck Syrian army infrastructure and mortar launchers early on Wednesday in what it described as a response to rocket launches from Syria toward Israel.

Renewed strikes hit southern Beirut on Thursday, after the Israeli military warned people to evacuate the area.

The Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee called in several posts on X for the evacuation of specific buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs, warning that it was ready to strike Hezbollah targets there.
Strikes also hit south Lebanon, including the border town of Khiam where Israeli troops are pushing to advance, according to Lebanon's National News Agency.

Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah have been locked in a deadly war since Sept 23, which has killed more than 3,000 people in Lebanon.
Israel’s military says several soldiers have been killed in the Lebanon campaign since it began ground operations on Sept 30.
