The Palestine Committee of the Arab Parliament convened in Cairo on Thursday to discuss ways of standing with the Palestinian people in Gaza and supporting the Palestinian cause, under the chairmanship of Speaker Adel Al-Asoomi, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Assaf bin Salem Abu Thuneen, a member of the Shura Council and the Arab Parliament, highlighted the Palestine Committee’s appreciation for countries that have provided humanitarian aid in support of the Palestinian cause.
The committee specifically praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and the Crown Prince, in supporting the Palestinian cause and providing humanitarian and relief assistance to the Palestinian people.
The committee also commended the Kingdom’s political support for Palestine in all international events.
The meeting expressed gratitude to South Africa for its fair and just stance in filing a case against the Israeli occupation at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding its assault on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied territories, said Abu Thuneen.
He further stated that the Arab Parliament plans to convey messages to the parliaments of countries that have supported the Israeli occupation, informing them of condemnation for such positions. The Arab Parliament will emphasize that these parliaments have made themselves complicit in the occupation’s assaults and crimes against the Palestinian people.
During the meeting, participants agreed to change the term “occupation force” for Israel to the “occupying Israeli entity” in official communications and statements issued by the Arab Parliament, Abu Thuneen confirmed.

The Syrian Civil Defense group, known as the White Helmets, uncovered at least 21 corpses as well as incomplete human remains on Wednesday in the Sayyida Zeinab suburb of the capital Damascus.

The discovery was made at a site previously used by Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iran-backed Iraqi militias, both allies of deposed President Bashar al-Assad during the country’s civil war.

The site included a field kitchen, a drugstore and a morgue, according to Ammar al-Salmo, an official with the White Helmets, a volunteer organization that operated in areas that were controlled by the opposition.

Rescue teams in white hazmat suits searched the site, located not far from the revered shrine of Sayyida Zeinab. The remains were placed into black bags and loaded onto a truck as bystanders from the neighborhood looked on.

“Some (of the remains) are skeletons, others are incomplete, and there are bags of small bones. We cannot yet determine the number of victims,” al-Salmo said.

“Damascus has become a mass grave,” he said, pointing out the growing reports of war-related graves and burial sites in the capital and other places in Syria.

Iran and Hezbollah provided Assad’s government with military, financial and logistical support during the civil war.
