Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is expected to visit the Saudi capital Riyadh at the end of the week, informed sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

He is expected to meet with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources revealed that the one-day visit will be held in wake of Saudi Arabia inviting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to visit the Kingdom.

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Mokhber had previously said that Raisi had accepted the invitation.

On June 17, Prince Faisal paid a visit to Tehran where he handed Abdollahian an official invitation from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz to visit Saudi Arabia.

It was the first visit by a Saudi foreign minister to the Iranian capital since Riyadh and Tehran reached an agreement in March to restore ties that had been severed for seven years.

Iran has since reopened its embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah, as well as the office of its representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
