New Iranian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alireza Enayati arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday to take up his post.

The ambassador confirmed his arrival in remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat.

Enayati’s appointment and assuming of his duties is in line with the China-sponsored agreement reached between Saudi Arabia and Iran in March to restore diplomatic relations.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani had confirmed on Monday that the envoy would arrive in Riyadh on Tuesday.

He will work on following up on bilateral relations and cooperation and achieving mutual interests between the Kingdom and Iran, added the spokesman.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had carried out an official visit to Saudi Arabia in August. He met with Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.

The FMs agreed during their meeting to kick off a new phase of relations between Riyadh and Tehran based on respect, bolstering bilateral cooperation to serve common interests and preserving regional security.

Prince Faisal had also announced that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz had invited Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to visit the Kingdom.
