Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Riyadh on Monday. The two leaders discussed boosting investments, strengthening ties, and enhancing defense and security cooperation.
They agreed to advance their defense partnership and explore more collaboration in defense industries, the British Prime Minister’s office said.
The UK and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen defense ties, including in combat aviation, setting a framework for long-term collaboration, according to Starmer’s office.
Starmer stressed that Middle East stability is key to UK security and vowed to enhance Britain’s role in supporting the region’s long-term stability.
He highlighted the Middle East’s importance to the UK, citing its influence on living costs, supply chains, and local communities.
Steamer also pointed to efforts like strengthening defense ties with Saudi Arabia, aiding Syria’s vulnerable, supporting Lebanon, pushing for a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza, freeing hostages, and speeding up aid to Gaza.
The British premier said lasting change needs a strong security foundation, which requires global engagement to ensure stability and protect partners from threats.
The Saudi Crown Prince’s 2018 UK visit boosted ties, launching the Saudi-UK Strategic Partnership Council. Trade between the two countries grew by 30% from 2018 to 2023, reaching $103 billion.
Saudi Arabia and the UK are boosting economic cooperation through initiatives like the Saudi-British Partnership and Business Forum, which promotes business connections, private sector growth, and new investments.
The UK is Saudi Arabia’s second-largest foreign investor, with $16 billion in investments. More than 1,100 British investors operate in the kingdom, and 52 UK companies have set up regional headquarters in Riyadh.
