A spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi militias claimed that the US ambassador to the country had incited against former President Ali Abdullah Saleh during peace talks held in Kuwait.

Mohammed Abdulsalam alleged that Ambassador Matthew Tolerhad wondered during the peace talks session how one could ally himself “with a murderer and criminal like Ali Abdullah Saleh.”

The ambassador is now shedding crocodile tears over Saleh, tweeted the Houthi spokesman.

Toler had previously expressed his country and the international community’s shock at Saleh’s death at the hands of the Houthis, saying that it demonstrates the barbarity of the militias and their rejection of political solutions to the conflict.

Yemeni social media users later mocked Abdulsalam’s tweets, noting that they prove the close ties the Houthis enjoy with the US.
