At least 12 people were killed on Sunday in a suicide bombing at a funeral in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad.
Noor Ahmad Habibi, deputy spokesman for the governor of the eastern Nangarhar province, said the bomber set off his explosives vest among people gathered in the provincial capital, Jalalabad, to mourn a former district chief.
Inamullah Miakhial, spokesman for the local hospital, said the attack killed 12 people and wounded another 14.
No one immediately claimed the attack.
The Taliban and an ISIS affiliate are both active in Nangarhar and routinely target security forces and local officials.
Sunday’s attack comes days after at least 41 people were killed and more than 80 wounded in a suicide attack on a cultural center in the capital Kabul on Thursday.
ISIS claimed responsibility for that attack.
