Moroccan Prime Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani said that 2019 will be a major year in terms of implementing reforms that place the African country on track to compete with other emerging states.
Speaking at a weekly cabinet meeting, Othmani said that the acting government under him will “double efforts to carry out reform across all sectors,” voicing hopes for reform efforts gaining more traction at the onset of the new year.
Othmani explained that the main objective is “success for all in reaching goals,” in order to get Morocco in “the circle of emerging countries.” Although he confirmed it was possible, Othmani said it needs laborious and intensive work.
Addressing all ministers, Othmani said that the success of each minister “is a success for all the government.”
Speaking on accomplishments in 2018, Othmani said: “We have finalized a number of projects, some of which are still in parliament.”
Othmani also mentioned some major legislative drafts meant to be vetted in 2019 that touch upon the education system, academic training and scientific research. The premier also cited a draft law for permitting regional centers and another for a national plan in the field of democracy and human rights.
A social protection body is currently in the making for Morocco with the government working on the final touches on the draft law that will see its establishment.
