Saudi air defenses on Friday intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemeni insurgents.
The spokesman of the coalition forces to support legitimacy in Yemen, Col. Turki al-Maliki, said the missile was headed towards Najran city in a deliberate act to target civilian and populated areas.
Coalition air defense forces successfully intercepted it, resulting in debris from the missile falling over residential areas. But no injuries or damages were reported, he said.
Maliki reiterated in a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency that such a hostile act committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias proves the Tehran regime’s continued involvement in supporting the insurgents in violation of UN resolutions 2216 and 2231.
Such acts also aim at threatening Saudi, regional and international security, he said.
Firing ballistic missiles at populated towns and villages is contrary to international humanitarian law, Maliki added.
