The Arab League has urged the international community, particularly the United Kingdom, to step up support to the devastated Gaza Strip during the coming phase by actively contributing to relief and reconstruction efforts.
The Arab League General Secretariat's Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector issued a statement on the 108th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. The statement welcomed the United Kingdom’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, describing it as a step toward correcting the historical injustice represented by the infamous Balfour Declaration, said the Saudi Press Agency on Monday.
The Arab League called on the United Kingdom to take all necessary measures to redress the historical injustice faced by the Palestinian people and to exert every form of pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to halt their violations and crimes against Palestinians.
The statement also urged the United Kingdom to refrain from providing any assistance that supports the colonial and expansionist settlement policy, which perpetuates Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
The Arab League highlighted the need to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, enable them to exercise their right to self-determination, support Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, and continue engagement to implement the two-state solution.
